Masaru Arai is a senior engagement consultant at EOS and focusses on engagements and business development in Japan. He has 12 years of experience in responsible investment, 19 years in investment trust management and 20 years in the brokerage and underwriting business. Masaru is chair of the Japan Sustainable Investment Forum. He has been a member of the FTSE4Good advisory committee since 2005 and a member of CDP’s Japan Advisory Group since 2009. He also is a member of the Sustainable Financial System Advisory Group of the PRI and in 2015 acted as a PRI board member. He is a regular member of the committees on ESG issues set up by the Ministry of the Environment, as well as by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan. Masaru worked at Daiwa Asset Management for 19 years, of which he spent seven years as its chief investment officer. Prior to that, he spent 20 years at Daiwa Securities, specialising in global investment and finance business. He has working experience in France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Hong Kong. Masaru holds a BA in Business and Commerce from Keio University, Japan, and studied at the Center for Arabic Studies at the American University in Cairo.
Repsol became the first oil and gas company to commit to a net-zero goal by 2050, supported by a decarbonisation pathway with interim targets, setting a higher benchmark for the industry. EOS has engaged with the company since 2013 on its climate action and targets.
