Global warming is a universal issue whose enormity seems to increase every year as new records for temperature, storm severity and species extinction are set, before being broken again. In the second episode of a two-part climate-focused special of Fundamentals, we ask: how should investors think about the climate within a portfolio context? And can investors adapt to a new climate normal?

In episode five of Fundamentals, Aoifinn Devitt, Head of Investment – Ireland, is joined by Louise Dudley, Portfolio Manager – Global Equities, Gary Greenberg, Head of Global Emerging Markets, and Kunjal Gala, Co-Portfolio Manager – Global Emerging Markets, as we continue our focus on the climate crisis.

In recent months, our Global Equities and Global Emerging Markets teams published two key climate-focused pieces: Balancing the carbon equation: how we are investing for a better climate and Gemologist: can we adapt to a new climate normal?. In this episode of Fundamentals, we dive deeper into these publications.

For Dudley, the aim of her research piece was “to acknowledge climate-change risk as a key risk for us as mainstream investors”.

Meanwhile, Greenberg thinks that “we have reached the point of no return on global warming”. As such, “adaptation is important for both investors and companies,” he explains.
