Sector lead: Technology
Dr Christine Chow manages the team of engagement associates at Hermes EOS and is the technology sector lead. She has over 20 years of experience in investment management, research and consulting. Christine's PhD thesis on shareholder engagement for responsible investment was short-listed for a United Nations award in Sweden for industry relevance and academic excellence. Christine is an elected member of the Court at the London School of Economics (LSE) and a member of the School’s Investment Sub-Committee (since 2016). In January 2019, she was appointed a member of the Data Governance Task Force of the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence. She was an adjunct finance professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2014 – 2016), a visiting scholar at the University of St Andrews in Scotland (2012 – 2013) and a member of the Greater China Committee of the Hong Kong Retirement Funds Association (2014-2016). Christine is a graduate of the London School of Economics and the University of Melbourne. She completed an executive education course on financial engineering at Stanford University.
Facilitating collaborative engagement on climate change
Hermes EOS has actively engaged with some of the world’s largest emitters of greenhouse gasses, asking for development of more sustainable long-term business models, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and improved governance and disclosure.
In August 2019, Tencent appointed its first female director following Hermes EOS engaging with the company on gender equality. We believe that by encouraging change at Tencent, there will be a multiplier effect on other technology companies, both in China and globally.
Ping An has made substantial progress on managing climate change and disclosing its approach to AI governance. This case study explores how Hermes EOS has engaged with the company on these topics since 2017.
