Sayuri Shirai

Senior Adviser

Dr Sayuri Shirai is senior adviser for EOS. Based in Tokyo, she is primarily focussed on public policy, governance and climate change as well as corporate engagement in Japan. Sayuri is currently a full time professor of economics at Keio University, a board member of a Japanese listed company, and a visiting scholar at the Asian Development Bank Institute (until end-March 2020). She is an established macro-economist, giving a lot of speeches and participating in panel discussions in the world.  She as a Member of the Policy Board of the Bank of Japan, responsible for making policy decisions and also taught at Science-Po in France in 2007-08. She was formally an economist at the International Monetary Fund (1993-98). She graduated from Keio University and holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University. She is the author of numerous articles in professional journals and books on topics including: monetary policies, digital currencies, Japanese economies, international finance and exchange rate system, etc.
