Dr Hans-Christoph Hirt – Co-Head
Dr Hans-Christoph Hirt is an executive director and board member at Hermes EOS and as Co-Head of the organisation responsible for the sustainable success of the business. He leads and oversees the global engagement programme and the quality of the services Hermes EOS provides to its clients around the world. Hans also leads some high-profile stewardship activities, including priority engagements with major companies in Asia and Germany, as well as interactions with key regulators and organisations. Prior to joining Hermes EOS, Hans worked with international law firm Ashurst. He is the author of numerous publications on corporate governance and law, responsible investment and stewardship. Currently, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the UN PRI Investor Engagement Clearinghouse and the Shareholder Responsibilities Committee of the International Corporate Governance Network. In 2015, he joined the Institutional Investor Council in Malaysia. Hans is a UK-qualified lawyer, holds degrees in Business Administration from universities in Germany and the UK, the ACCA qualification and a PhD from the London School of Economics (LSE). He continues to be involved in academia as a Corporate Governance Fellow at the LSE’s Financial Markets Group and a Teaching Fellow at University College London. Hans speaks French, German and Mandarin.
Emma Hunt – Co-Head
Emma Hunt is Co-Head of Hermes EOS, with responsibility for strategic client management and business development. Emma has been an active member of the investment world for 20 years, focusing on governance, stewardship and ESG issues. She has worked throughout the investment chain, including investment management, research and most recently consulting. She joined Hermes EOS from Towers Watson where she worked closely with asset owners from around the world, as well as the consulting firm itself, to integrate principles of stewardship and ESG into their investment beliefs, policy and practice. She holds an MSc from Imperial College, a Diplôme International de Commerce from École Supérieure de Commerce in Toulouse, a BA Honours in European Business and Economics and the CFA Institute’s Investment Management Certificate.
Bruce Duguid – Director
Bruce Duguid is a director at Hermes EOS and leads engagements with environmentally-exposed companies across the mining, oil and gas and utilities sectors, as well as corporate governance engagements in the UK. He is the lead author of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change’s 'Investor Expectations of Mining Companies – Drilling Deeper into Carbon Asset Risk’. Prior to joining Hermes EOS, he was head of sustainability at the UK Green Investment Bank, where he spent four years working on the project to establish the bank and then building its sustainability function. Before working in sustainability, Bruce worked in corporate strategy as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and as head of strategy at Visa Europe. He is also a qualified lawyer in England and Wales and holds a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.
Tim Goodman – Director
Tim Goodman is a director at Hermes EOS and sector lead for oil and gas. He is also responsible for Hermes EOS’ activities in North America. Previously, he worked in the insurance industry and held a number of senior operational management roles before acting as a company secretary in a UK-listed company. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, having obtained the institute prize for the best overall performance when he qualified. Tim is a regular speaker on governance-related matters, a member of the US Council of Institutional Investors’ corporate governance advisory council and a former chair of the UK Quoted Companies Alliance corporate governance committee.
James O’Halloran – Director
James O’Halloran is a director at Hermes EOS and leads its Voting and Engagement Support team. Prior to joining Hermes EOS, he worked for nine years in technology leadership roles within the professional services industry and has seven years operational industry experience. James is a graduate of the University of Manchester.
Carl Short – Director
Carl Short is the director of engagement at Hermes EOS. He is a highly experienced manager and financial analyst who has worked in the equities market for over 25 years. He specialises in the consumer sector but has had exposure to a range of other industries and has a keen interest in corporate stewardship. Prior to joining Hermes EOS, Carl worked for a number of banks and other research providers, including Standard & Poor's Equity Research, Société Générale, Nomura and Kleinwort Benson. Earlier in his career, Carl worked as a finance manager for Marks & Spencer after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with a forerunner of KPMG. He is a Fellow of the ICAEW, a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and has a BA in Economics with Mathematics from the University of Sussex.
