Federated Hermes sees APAC growth opportunity with appointment of three Business Development Directors

Federated Hermes is today announcing the hire of three Business Development Directors to the Asia Pacific region, as it continues to grow its footprint in the region. The pioneering responsible investment firm is bolstering its distribution team to meet the increasing demand across the region for its full suite of investment and engagement capabilities.

When Hermes Investment Management and Federated Investors joined forces in 2018 to form the USD629 billion asset manager it is today, they brought together their wide range of products and distribution channels to support clients in the region.

Gary Horton has been appointed as Head of Distribution, Australia and New Zealand, a new role in a region where Federated Hermes has seen strong interest and business growth in recent years. Based in Sydney, he will be responsible for raising third party assets and delivering new business targets across both countries. Gary joins Federated Hermes from Janus Henderson where he was Head of Institutional business in Australia.

In addition to Gary’s appointment, Federated Hermes has established a full regulated corporate subsidiary in Australia, signifying a key milestone for the business and a firm commitment to clients in Australia and New Zealand.

Ian Manton-Hall, managing director at IMH Squared, who has been representing the firm in Australia under a third-party arrangement since 2015, will continue to play an important client role for the firm, working closely with Gary.

Alex Ng joins as Head of Wholesale Distribution, Asia, based in Singapore. This new role is in response to the increased appetite from wholesale clients for the firm’s sustainable investment products. He will be joining Federated Hermes in November from Aberdeen Standard Investments (Asia) where he was responsible for the distribution of firm-wide capabilities to banks and family offices regionally.

Mark Coppell joins the team alongside Alex in Singapore, having previously distributed Federated Investors Inc products to the UK, European and Middle Eastern markets. His new role will focus on the firm’s leading global liquidity product offering. Prior to joining Federated Investors in 2017, he spent five years at JP Morgan Asset Management, most recently as Global Liquidity Relationship Manager.

All three new positions report to Jakob Nilsson, Head of Distribution, Asia Pacific, for the International business of Federated Hermes.

Harriet Steel, Head of Business Development at the international business of Federated Hermes, said:

“Federated Hermes has established a detailed and phased growth plan for the Asia-Pacific region which seeks to target key markets where our existing presence and capabilities will enable us to be successful. The appointment of Gary, Alex and Mark is built on the significant uplift we are seeing for our combined range of leading investment products and stewardship services. Their collective skillsets and knowledge of the client landscape across Asia Pacific will be key to this next stage of growth for the company.”
